Biographical Summaries
In his capacity as Director and Lead Analyst, Ned May leads Outsell's analytic coverage and advisory services focused on the Search and Aggregation market, including web search providers, licensed content aggregators, and search technology vendors. He serves as an executive-level advisor and consultant to clients on issues impacting all facets of local, social, vertical, and enterprise search.
Prior to joining Outsell, Ned worked as an industry analyst at IDC were he ran the Worldwide IT Services research program. Ned has experience working in Internet startups, a non-profit think tank, and in journalism. He received his MBA from Babson College, graduating summa cum laude. He also studied management at IESE in Barcelona, Spain, and received a liberal arts degree in economics and government from Bowdoin College.
Gary Price is a renowned expert in search, particularly structured data search, and a respected leader within the search, library and education communities.
In addition to his former position on the editorial team at Search Engine Watch, Price is the editor of ResourceShelf and Docuticker, online news sources for online researchers, librarians, journalists and educators. Price has been a frequent speaker at Search Engine Strategies, WebSearch University, Computers in Libraries, Internet Librarian and numerous other industry conferences.
Prior to joining Search Engine Watch and ResourceShelf, Price worked as a reference librarian at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He co-authored the book The Invisible Web with Chris Sherman and has compiled several well-known web research tools, including Price's List of Lists and Direct Search, a compilation of invisible Web databases. He has received numerous awards which include the Innovations in Technology award (2002) and the Anges Henebry award (2004) from the Special Libraries Association and Alumnus of the Year (2004) from Wayne State University.

Emil Ismalon is the CTO and Founder of Collarity, Inc. He has been involved in researching and experimentation on the scientific side of search and communities over the last three years. Emil brought together disciplines from statistical physics and cognition research to form a new way to approach community-based-search and recommendation systems. During that period and before founding Collarity, Emil developed innovative algorithms and unique perceptions and wrote several patents in the field of focused collaborative filtering and content personalization. Significant portion of his time at Collarity is dedicated to working with a group of researchers from various complimenting fields to develop a new platform for search, relevancy and personalization. The team includes, among others, PhDs in Computer Science, Mathematics, Visualization and Human Interaction.
Prior to Collarity, Emil served as an R&D scientist at Trellis photonics labs, the innovator of solid-state, true all-optical switching technology. He was involved in the research of Trellis' core technology and conducted advanced research in photo-reactive effects in KLTN crystals for optic switching, specializing in crystals, holographs, and special effects in high frequency lasers.
His interest fields are: Machine Learning, Text Classification, High Dimensional Clustering, quantum mechanics interpretations and Buddhist meditation techniques. He is a strong believer in the deep relation between consciousness and reality and sees the Internet as one manifestation of that truth. Emil was an MS student at the Racah Institute of Physics, and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Chemistry from the Hebrew University – Jerusalem.
Jerome Pesenti is chief scientist and co-founder of Vivísimo. In this role, Jerome acts as the visionary for the company driving development and delivery of Vivísimo's products. He also plays a crucial role in the company's overall strategic vision and growth. Before Vivísimo, Jerome was a visiting scientist at Carnegie Mellon University's computer science department, carrying out research on document clustering, data mining and artificial intelligence.
Jerome is a frequent presenter at industry conferences including Microsoft's US Public CIO Summit, ICIC 2006 Conference, Life Sciences Conference and ASIDIC. He is an alumnus of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. His academic degrees consist of a B.S. in philosophy from the Sorbonne, an M.S. in cognitive science from the University of Paris IV, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in pure mathematics from the University of Paris-Sud.
Patrick M. Micielli

Mr. Patrick Micielli serves as the Project Manager, COR, and CTO for the eRulemaking Program, a federal-wide E-Government program that encourages public interaction with the federal regulatory process. The eRulemaking Program, managed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is responsible for the operation of the Federal Docket Management System (FDMS) which is used by over 150 federal agencies in support of their rulemaking and other comment processes.
Mr. Micielli has over 30 years experience in the IT field within the federal government; including EPA, USDA Forest Service and the Department of Army.
S.V. Forney

With over 25 years of Information Technology experience, Mr. Vic Forney provides program management and technical oversight for Lockheed Martin in a contract with the eRulemaking Program. Mr. Forney is responsible for the integration of all technical solutions for the Federal Docket Management Systems that include a complex suite of Document and Records management services, Database, Document Capture, and Platform and Network engineering. Mr. Forney’s work has enabled the eRulemaking systems that support over 150 separate rulemaking organizations and over one million documents.
Prior to his work with eRulemaking, Mr. Forney provided technical engineering and management in development, deployment and support of enterprise Web application systems for the Department of Energy, the U.S. Air Force, and the Social Security Administration.
Samir Singh

Samir Singh is Innovation Officer at ProQuest. Prior to ProQuest, Samir was founder and President of ContentScan, Inc., developer of the Dome™ discipline specific information service for allied health professions. Samir also created and launched Scholar Universe™, the web’s largest collection of keyword searchable faculty and researcher profiles. His current interests center around the application of search and social software to scholarly research contexts. He received his undergraduate degree from Claremont McKenna College.
John L. (JL) Needham

John Lewis Needham is Manager of Public Sector Content Partnerships at Google, Inc., where he leads the technology company's initiative to partner with governments and other public sector organizations to make their information and online services more accessible to Internet users through the full range of Google's search services. These public-private partnerships are based on open standards and data sharing and enable easier access to public records, election information, geospatial data and other public sector sources (www.google.com/publicsector).
While at Google, JL has also contributed to product and partner development for Google Book Search, Google Scholar, and Google News Archive Search. JL has held positions in product and business development at Congressional Quarterly, ebrary, and Cambridge University Press. He studied at ISM in Paris, Denver Publishing Institute, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, University of Vienna, and Utah State University.
Kevin Bouley is President and CEO of Nerac, Inc., (http://www.nerac.com) a global technology and IP advisory research firm. A recognized leader in the information industry and Connecticut native, Bouley earned his undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Connecticut. After several promotions in sales and accounting, Bouley was named Vice President of Nerac in 1987 and held that position until acquiring the company in 1999.
Under Bouley’s direction, Nerac has grown steadily, more than doubling in size. For the past five years, Nerac has been named to the Deloitte & Touche prestigious Technology Fast 50 program for Connecticut, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the state.
As a thought-leader for the Tolland technology corridor, Bouley is an active Angel investor and involved in accelerating business development in this area of the state. Four recently established technology based ventures are currently housed at Nerac and continue to develop commercially. Working with UConn’s School of Business Administration and Alumni, as well as members of the local business community, Bouley aims to bring more business development programs to fruition in the near future by connecting dynamic entrepreneurs with potential investors.
Bouley is on the board and serves as immediate past president for the Association of Information and Dissemination Centers (ASIDIC). He is currently president of the National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS) and is also presently on the UConn School of Engineering Advisory Board, the International Council for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI), and formerly served on the boards of the Connecticut Technology Council (CTC) and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA).
Jeff Given

Jeff Given is the IT Operations Manager for the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He also serves as the lead Cyber Security manager for OSTI's Information Systems division. Jeff's background includes Oracle database administration, application development, and IT management. His education includes a Masters of Science in Engineering Sciences from The University of Tennessee.
Jeff's work history includes IT contract management for Information International Associates, product management for a wireless application startup, and application development and database administration for a leading health care provider.
Jabin White is Vice President of Marketing at Silverchair, Inc., a leading developer of health reference information solutions for health care publishers. In this role, he works in an executive capacity with Silverchair management, partners, and clients to promote Silverchair’s solutions for publishing electronic health content.
Before joining Silverchair in early 2006, White spent five years as Executive Director of Electronic Production at Elsevier, serving the Health Sciences Division and dedicated to topics such as markup languages and supporting tools, content management, and workflow engineering.
White came to Elsevier as part of the acquisition of Harcourt Health Sciences, where he led the Electronic Publishing Services group that published under the imprints of Mosby, W.B. Saunders, and Churchill Livingstone. His group performed the production work for such products as MD Consult, Mosby’s Drug Consult, and The Official ABMS Directory of Board Certified Medical Specialists.
White started in health sciences publishing as an editorial assistant, and learned SGML at Mosby in the mid-90’s, working on the drug reference Physicians GenRx. He held electronic publishing positions at Mosby, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, and Unbound Medicine before joining Harcourt. He is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a BA in history and is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration/Information Science at Pennsylvania State University.
