Small Cendi Logo Overview

CENDI has three major goals: Coordination and Leadership; Joint Projects; and Information Literacy.

The STI managers have responsibility for STI at agencies representing more than 90 percent of the $70 billion Federal R&D Budget. STI is an integral part of the R&D process and a necessary raw material for all science and technology programs. The effective management and use of STI plays a vital role, both in advancing the state of knowledge and in technical problem solving. A better understanding of this role and better cooperation between science and technology management and STI management can increase the effectiveness of the process.

The STI programs of the CENDI agencies have many common interests. The organization was chartered in 1985 to maximize the opportunities for sharing member agency resources, avoid duplication of effort, and improve each agency's effectiveness. The Principals have agreed to exchange information and ideas, share resources, and undertake joint initiatives. They cooperate on many levels, from policy to standards to operations.
